Sights in Armenia #1 Churches

Have you ever wonder what is the first Christian country in the world? Did you guess? – It is Armenia. Probably this is the reason that Armenia is full of churches, cathedral, monasteries, chapels, and other religious centers.

They say that the oldest Christian church in the world is St. Etchmiadzin – the mother cathedral of the Armenian Apostolic Church. Armenians like to visit churches and thank God for whatever they have.

They may also go to churches and light candles praying for their dreams to come true.

Churches have an important role in national weddings. Armenian women prefer to get married in the church, getting the holy blessing of the Christian God. Maybe the church which is known for weddings is the Saghmosavank Monastery which is situated in a very picturesque place.

Sights in Armenia #2 Yerevan City Center

Yerevan is the capital of Armenia. This is an ancient city which has a nickname “Pink city”. This nickname comes from the national tufa stone which is especially used for buildings in Yerevan. This stone has a pink color.

There are many interesting places you may visit in Yerevan, including the Republic Square (an architectural masterpiece), the House of Opera and Ballet, Cascade Complex, various museums, art, and cultural centers, galleries, and many more places that will help you to enjoy your time.

Sights in Armenia #3 Lake Sevan

The Lake Sevan is considered to be the Armenian sea. This is the largest water source in the country and especially in summer people visit there very often, escaping from the sweltering hot and noise of the city.

There is a peninsula in Lake Sevan. In this peninsula, you may see an ancient church called Sevanavank. The name of the church itself means “the monastery of Sevan”.

Zorac Karer means “an army of stones”. This is also known as Karahunge or the Armenian Stonehenge. They say once this was an ancient astrological observatory.

This stone construction remains a mystery for scientists who express different opinions concerning its origin and use. According to the most popular version, the construction dates back to the 6th century BC. They say that it served as an observatory for star-watching.

Sights in Armenia #5  Khndzoresk Swinging Bridge

The Swinging Bridge of Khndzoresk is a metal bridge from where you may experience an unforgettable landscape. The bridge is 160 meters long and connects two parts of the village of Khndzoresk.

The Khndzoresk Swinging Bridge was made by the local people. No technique or machine is used. All the construction is implemented by the human hands. In any case, the bridge is highly durable.

This bridge drives you across a deep canyon which provides a pictorial view of the extraordinary rock formations.
